http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071210234452AAFtegj now another huge debate, from possibly the catholic church which altered the bible to make it seem we need to beat our children when they misbehave. In the above link are phrases in the bible that could be interpreted as beating children. Was the bible secretly altered with words changed? Or was it just that it was severely misinterpreted. Below people say the Bible does not advocate beating children, but does advocate punishment.
A QUOTE from the above link:
“Nowhere does it say that it is okay to hit your children. It is definitely encouraged to parent, develop, and train your children in the ways that they should go to succeed in life, and this often takes the form of a physical response to bad choices. However, I don’t think anyone could say that a spanking constitutes physical abuse so long as it is performed IN LOVE and without overstepping the bounds into beating. I was spanked by my parents, even with a switch or two, but it never was more than 2 or 3 “swats” on the butt. I was never slapped, hit, punched, or anything else. And my parents always made a point of telling me why I was being punished and coming back later to encourage me and let me know that everything was okay. I think I had a -great- upbringing.
“Spare the rod, spoil the child” is taken out of context of the day. This was a proverb, written by Solomon, King of Israel. What did a rod mean to him? It was one of two things: a king’s rod or a shepherd’s rod.
A king’s rod is an implement of his royalty. It was a sign of kingship, authority, and leadership. It was not a physical beating tool.
A shepherd’s rod was a goad. It was what he used to guide the sheep back into formation. Sometimes, he would have to poke the sheep so that it physically hurt, but sheep are pretty dumb and need the extra incentive to go straight sometimes. He also used the rod to defend the sheep against invaders and animals.
In either case, the rod was not a beating tool, but an instrument of teaching, authority, defense, and (ultimately) love. If you live as a parent without ever instructing or punishing them for inadequate behavior, how can you expect them to do the right thing on their own? You can’t, and that’s what this verse is trying to portray.
But people, narrow-minded, viewing only the “current” interpretation, have taken this verse out of context and distorted it to mean that children should be silent unless spoken to, obedient to the end of their lives, cowering in fear of their parents as demi-gods, for all intents and purposes slaves. That is a ridiculous distortion of the love that a parent should have for a child, and one that was portrayed by Solomon in the way(s) he knew best to describe it.
Blame the English language or the stupidity of man, but either way, there is no place in the Bible where it is okay to hit your kids.”
END OF QUOTE
So in other words, as a parent, you are supposed to live a Godly life yourself and show your children how to behave by being a leader. Your children want to look up to you. They are not supposed to fear you, but aspire to be like you. Children are always looking towards adults for how to behave. If you lie to them and then beat them when they lie to you, they will lose trust in you, and trust in God. I think the undoing the Church is it’s own fault, not the fault of some elite bankers trying to cause destruction, but it’s every parent’s fault for not being the solid leader for their children to look up to. Children know when they are being lied to also, and they know when their parents are showing each other disrespect. How do you expect the children to respect you, respect God and want to be a christian when all the Christian adults are not humble, not admitting their sins, hold their emotions in to save face. Every time you as a parent never show how you truly feel to a young person, they learn that is the right way to act and will not want to humble themselves before God. Young people love it when their leaders break down and be humble before them.
Watch fans go biserk when Demi Lovato starts crying. Demi Lovato is a Christian, she’s dealt with problems and never puts herself before others.
Blog post here though I don’t necessarily agree with this page’s rest of contents, I am guiding you here because it was a quote taken from a care2 website which has problems displaying in my browser: hxxp://dovaryeh.wordpress.com/2007/12/07/blog-does-the-bible-justify-child-abuse/
And a whole site dedicated to child abuse:
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
I mean Jesus is very clear, that if you hit your children, you will reap what you sow.
Below is another site that I have found to be like the elementary school of Bible education. By that I mean that Gotquestions.org is very mainstream Christian and doesn’t seem to have the best understanding of the Bible, nor does it know Greek and Hebrew. In order to have a true upper level understanding, you need to know Greek and Hebrew, and know the whole thing inside out. They do advocate beating your kids, but only as discipline, never because you are angry and want to take your frustration on them.
people striving to get to the top and stepping on others to get there.
Right here is the truth from a user on the page:
“Ha. I was part of the generation who stopped going to church. My opinion is this: It’s not that I don’t believe in God and don’t want to be good. But put it this way. When I was a kid, i studied in a Catholic school. I dutifully went to Church, did not cheat etc. I idolized my priests so much UNTIL the president of the high school council confided to me how the priests were actually stealing money for their own personal pleasures. I can’t help but wonder how the Pope lives in such splendor when there are kids dying from poverty. I watch the news and see priests rape kids. My father tells me to b good but ends up beating my mom. The president says there shall be justice only to find out she cheated in the elections.
It’s not the homilies or Sunday mass. It’s not the modernization of the Church. It’s when kids see the people they use to idolize or admire lie. It’s when kids realize that “goodness” and “love” can be broken by the people who tell them to be good in the first place.
It’s a lost of trust. That’s what is making kids stop going to Church. They don’t trust the Church to help them.”
End of QUOTE.
This is true. People don’t go to church anymore because the Church doesn’t practice what they preach. We were never a great Christian nation. We have a very dark history in beating our children, having slaves, and killing native pagan people of this land all rooted in misinterpretation of the true meanings behind the Bible.
Society was structured to favor a heirarchy like there is in HELL. Because all throughout time, church leaders and society politicians and kings set up via hell. God never wanted there to be a king. God let Israel have a king because they wanted to be like all the rest. The reason why there is no hierarchy in heaven is because God doesn’t care what you do in life, only whether or not you believe in Him. If you believe, you get in. The Church advocates saints and glorifies people who do good deeds. You do not get into heaven based on your deeds, but only on your faith. And in heaven you aren’t weighed on a scale. You are born a new. You don’t get in the same way you are now, same mind as you have now.
A good explanation of how works will not save you. Therefore there can’t be some form of heirarchy in heaven. Because the heirarchy would only be based on works and God loves all people.
Also no hierarchy right here, proof:
Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
So all this false teaching of hierarchy is of Satan and Satan is the ruler on Earth, has set up hierarchies on Earth to mimic his hell realm.
http://www.greatbiblestudy.com/biblical_demonology.php talks a little about hierarchy of demons.
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
So far I am unsure if the Catholic Church actually altered the Bible, but they have certainly twisted the teachings from it around.
[update 8-23-2013 warning disclaimer about http://www.bible.ca because the website is a false prophet, because it preaches heresy about baptismal regeneration. http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/False%20Doctrines/Baptismal%20Regeneration/mark_16-16.htm and http://www.gotquestions.org/baptism-Mark-16-16.html maybe it belongs maybe it doesn't. Either way, they are ignoring a plethora of verses in the Bible that contradict that phrase. And they are placing a works, something you do, to get your salvation. Immediate when I read that I felt like my salvation was going away from me because I lost belief in it. That's what happens, you can lose salvation if you lose belief. But no matter of any works you do can get it back. Then I asked god and repented and God was good to me when I went food shopping by having the woman at the cash register send me back to get another fruit because the one I picked had mold on it. God also sent me the Gotquestions site.]
That’s funny, services done in a language you don’t understand. And no wonder most Jews don’t keep their commandments. They can’t read or understand Hebrew, so what can we expect.
This site debunks Catholicism and majority of Christianity with a return to Biblical Christianity. I am more of a Biblical Christian than anything else.
Jesus was baptized under water. I wonder if there is any clean water left? Like cold springs? Because hot springs would burn you!
catholic church on wiki-answers obviously lies and says that it never changed the bible and that the bible was changed by heretics afterwards. Actually that is totally untrue because the Catholic Church has been keeping the Bible from people for centuries and it wasn’t until the people became familiar with it that they could really understand what it says. So the Catholic Church hid the bible, and when they couldn’t hide it anymore, they spread a bunch of false teachings like beating children and slavery around. Every bible student would know that slavery angers God greatly. For his believers, they were slaves and God sent the plagues to Egypt. If that story happened or not, it doesn’t matter, what matters is God put the story there to teach us that slavery is wrong.
Exodus 21:16 and 1 Timothy 1:10 and 5:18 both outlaw slavery.
16 ¶ And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
So were we a good Christian nation? One that practiced murdering native peoples, beating our children and selling blacks into slavery? No way. We were never a good Christian nation. We were always sinners.
Exodus 21:26 ¶ And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake.
27 And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.
Also slaves should be treated with the same care as any other person. This was a relief in that day and age when slavery was harsh. Atheists like to point to slavery in Exodus 21 and say that the bible promotes it. They lack understanding of what life was like then and that God was trying to ease conditions up for them.
